Rome The Vatican’s museum (5)

To visit one of the most beautiful museums in Italy, it’s better to plan it in advance. Because the book is more than advised, we bought our tickets online at the Vatican website. It costs 16 € for the entry to the site and € 4 as booking fees. You must choose the date and time of the visit in advance and this is where we were very optimistic. Arrived at 2am at Rome (sleeping around 3am), we were not quite fresh the next day for a scheduled visit at 9am! The advantage of booking on the Internet is that you almost don’t wait to buy the ticket and then access to the museum. In peak season the queues are impressive and extend over several hundred meters! Little tip given by the Routard guide book that we followed: the Sistine Chapel is the busiest part of the museum, this is the part that we went to see when we arrived on site. We cross all the museum without taking the time to discover the arts but when we arrived at the chapel we could take the time to watch the titanic work that had been done.

After a torticollis with the Sistine Chapel, we were able to walk quietly in the museum, go from room to room … Many collections ranging from the history of Rome to Egypt. What really impressed me is the work that has been done on the ceilings, sculptures as well as paintings and trompe l’oeil how these mosaics for floors … I’ll let you see my pictures.

We spent 4 or 5 hours in the museum. I think this is a minimum to see and enjoy the works. If you want to do things quietly, it will certainly count 1h more but we were hungry! Besides, I’m talking about the restaurant we tested on our first day.
