London #10 Camden Town

Following the serie of shots dedicated to London, here some of Camden. Aaaah Camden … Camden Town has become for me a must for each of my visits to London. Located in North London, this area is best known for its market open every weekend from 10am. Besides, I only go for this “event” and I know only this aspect of the place.

To get there, it’s pretty simple as easily accessible by subway via the Northern line (black line and get off at Camden Town). And right out of the subway we can feel the crazy atmosphere of the market. From 11am there is an incredible crowd swarming around the shops with facades equally eccentric as each other. To find out where to go when exiting the subway, just follow the crowd back towards Camden High Street for the Market, which runs from both sides of the street. Immediately to the right, a first market offers mostly clothing of all kinds.

Continuing on Camden High Street, here the real fun begins: the market itself. Don’t be afraid to push to find stalls selling a variety of things: clothes more or less crazy, tat, gadgets of all kinds. For my part, I will never leave empty-handed. And I repeat, do not hesitate to plunge into the market especially to get the old stables where you can see beautiful sculptures.

Although you don’t need to buy anything, Camden Town worth seeing just for the people who came across. It’s a bit like the neighborhood of Châtelet les Halles in Paris. Profiles and looks very different: punk, metal, baby doll, classic, etc..

If you’re there for lunch rather than get a restaurant I suggest you browse the food stalls and lunch by the canal on the facilities provided for or on the ground with the feet in water. Canal side, the food is in my opinion better and less fat than Asian food quite greasy.

To browse leisurely the Camden Town Market, I think it can take the day, especially if you make a smoothie breaks around the canal. Otherwise, after a nice big morning and if your feet are ok, you can walk along the canal and in the residential area of Camden to get Primrose Hill park and discover a panoramic view of London. Too bad for the picture, the picture day there was a little fog …
