The 14th arrondissement of Paris, this is not really a neighborhood that I frequent a lot. This is not so much that I do not like Montparnasse and its surroundings but I’m more used to linger in the North of Paris. But a friend decided to celebrate her birthday in a restaurant and she chose a restaurant named Sur le fil that is between the stations Raspail, Vavin and Port Royal.

Sur le fil – French food

Taste of the meal It is on a slate hanging on the wall that we can discover the menu of this restaurant: 4 starters, 4 main courses and 5 desserts. Nothing more. There is therefore not much choice but most of the time we can say this is a restaurant where we cook fresh food. And then there is still everything. As starter, I tasted the soup of Jerusalem artichoke, boiled egg and grapefruit and it was not bad at all. Passion and mackerel broth was amazing especially since it is served in a soup plate with all visible packing and the waitress pours the broth over.

For the main course, I chose the ribs with a delicious sauce and the mashed potatoes was very good. Fish side, there was on the menu of bluefin tuna and the Saint-Jacques fried with mashed celery that I liked but I think the Chief would serve the saint-Jacques with a bit of mashed celery and a little mashed potato because it is faster disgusting.

For dessert, I chose the millefeuille made and it was not bad at all. And visually, the lemon tart clashed!

Setting The restaurant has two small rooms. The decor is minimalist but with a few extras on the tables with candles, mini cactus etc.. And I loved the lighting above the bar!

Service The waitress who was alone was quite cheerful and friendly. She warned us that with one person in the kitchen to serve a table of 12 people would be a little long but actually the timing was great. Were discussed between us and we did not see the time passing.

Price It costs between 7 and 9€ for a starter, between 19 and 22€ for a main course and between 6 and 9€ for a dessert. I find it relatively expensive especially the bottle of the cheapest red wine costs 33€. For my part, my man and I paid 63€ with 1 starter, 2 main courses, 1 dessert + 2 juice and therefore without wine.

Conclusion This is a restaurant where there is taste in the plate but the presentation of the dishes is sometimes awkward. The plates are relatively well stocked but the whole remains relatively expensive.

Recommendation’s rate : 3,5/5
